Cupa Pizarras, a well-established slate company, has launched Thermoslate, a new product that seamlessly integrates thermal cells into natural slate tiles. While Solar Thermal has fallen by the wayside in Spain due to the uptake of PV, the company claims Thermal has significant benefits. A company spokesperson says, “Because natural slate is dark in colour, it attracts the sun’s heat, and a rooftop sheathed in Thermoslate tiles can provide up to two-thirds of a home’s hot water needs annually. Certain other homes with Thermoslate rooftops are reducing energy consumption by as much as 85 percent annually.
